Self catering converted stables with several eco-friendly features
DESCRIPTION
Yr Hen Stablau is Welsh for The Old Stables and indeed this was a working stables about 80-90 years ago with stalls for four horses.
It is located in the south of Snowdonia National Park, near Machynlleth and overlooking the Dyfi Valley. The nearest shops are a mile away.
On the ground floor there is a sitting room with French windows leading onto a slate terrace with a woodland view, a kitchen/dining room with modern fittings, high ceiling, original beams and farmland view, modern fittings, a double bedroom and a shower room/wc. There are two twin bedrooms on the first floor.
Electricity, gas and central heating as well as linen are included. There is a wood stove; radio, CD player and digital TV; washing machine/dryer, microwave, fridge, freezer and spring water supply.
GREEN CREDENTIALS
The owners have done their best to make the cottage environmentally friendly.
Existing walls and features of the stables have been preserved and the original stone, slates and timbers have been used. The building has also been designed for low carbon emissions and high energy efficiency.
The main environmental features include renewable or cleaner energy sources: LPG gas, solar energy, renewable sourced electricity, wood burning stove using their own logs. To reduce energy use and energy losses there is thick insulation, draught sealing of roof and walls, draught proofing of lobby and porch with glazing; double or triple glazing of all windows; underfloor heating with 92% efficiency boiler and passive ventilation. Low solvent organic paint has been applied on walls to avoid oil waste.
Biodegradable and recycled plastics and cleaning materials are used in the cottage and recycling bins are provided.
All furniture and fittings come from local, Fairtrade or organic suppliers.
