West Winds is a traditional tearoom with bed and breakfast. This 19th century stone cottage with its delightful flower garden is set in an attractive village in Wharfedale at the heart of the Yorkshire Dales.

On arrival guests are provided with a complimentary pot of tea and home made cake in the tearooms. There are 3 bedrooms, a double, a twin and a single. The rooms come with tea and coffee tray, fresh flowers, a free sample box of Yorkshire made Whitaker’s chocolates and a bowl of organic fruit.

Breakfast features a choice of cooked English or vegetarian, or continental. In season high tea or early dinner are offered.

Proprietor Lynn Thornborrow says West Winds is “looking after our shared environment for tomorrow”.

To that end electricity is supplied from renewable sources by Good Energy. Fuel consumption is curtailed as far as possible without compromising comfort: low energy bulbs have been installed and the loft spaces well insulated. Recycled materials are sourced where possible. Paper, card, cans and glass are recycled and all waste vegetable and plant matter are composted for use in the cottage garden. Waste bathwater and rainwater are collected also for the garden. Cleaning and washing products are supplied by Ecover.

Wherever feasible, locally produced or organic food is purchased and some is home grown. Lynn says she promotes the use of public transport, walking and cycling and donates to a number of environmental charities.
