Sunnyside Hotel

Newquay, Cornwall

Mid range

Seaside resort hotel aiming to be as eco-friendly as possible

 DESCRIPTION

Located just above Towan Beach in the heart of Newquay town centre, the Sunnyside Hotel boasts views across the bay and the awe-inspiring Atlantic coastline. With only a two minute walk to the main shops and bars and only a short stroll from the beach, the resort’s winning formula of sun, fun, sea and surf are all on its doorstep.

All 55 en suite rooms are bright and comfortable. Each comes with tea and coffee making facilities, TV and Wi-Fi.

The restaurant, Union Jack's, overlooks the Killacourt public park and offers traditional dishes such as “gourmet sausages and mash”, shepherds pie, fish cakes, and cod and chips (served with homemade chips!) plus vegetarian and healthy options.

The hotel bar, called the retreat, plays host to live music and regular entertainment. Adjoining it there is a pool hall and games room.

 GREEN FEATURES

Sunnyside’s management aims to be the most eco-friendly hotel possible and has introduced a number of measures to try to reduce its waste production and energy consumption. Behind the scenes in the bar, offices, restaurant, and kitchen much is reused and recycled. Bins are provided for guests to recycle newspapers, magazines, cans, and bottles. Compost bins are used to dispose of all food wastes. The booking office is near paperless.

The housekeeping team uses low impact chemicals and products wherever possible. Cleaning products are purchased in large containers and refillable dispensers are used to reduce the amount of plastic wastage. Soap and shampoo are provided for guests in bathroom dispensers, as opposed to individual bottles, therefore reducing plastic wastage further.

Low energy lighting has been installed wherever possible with hopes to install light sensors in the corridors and public toilets.

To support the local economy, it sources as much locally produced food and drink as possible.
