DESCRIPTION
Channings occupies a row of five Edwardian stone built terraced houses, one of which was for a time the home of Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton. Situated in the city’s West End this privately owned boutique hotel opened in 1990 and has since been voted Edinburgh Hotel of the Year.
It has 41 individually decorated bedrooms, which include six suites and a four-poster bedroom. Many have stunning views across the Firth of Forth and all have en suite bathrooms offering a choice of slipper roll top bath or a jacuzzi big enough for two. All bedrooms are equipped with eTV - a television / in-room entertainment centre.
Channings Restaurant has received 2 AA Rosettes. Its chef prefers to use fresh Scottish produce and ingredients that are in season. Light meals are available in the Wine Bar.
If the sun is shining then the perfect place to bask is Channings Sun Deck, where barbecues are available when weather permits.
GREEN CREDENTIALS
Each of the hotels in the Town House group to which this belongs is eco friendly and a member of the Green Tourism Business Scheme – Channings has received its silver award. The firm sets out to be responsible and thoughtful with regard to its environmental impact. This hotel has a number of measures in place and a 'Green Team' that meets every month to discuss new ideas.
It recycles as much glass, plastic, paper, cardboard and cans as possible, including all the newspapers left behind in the bedrooms.
To reduce energy consumption it has fitted all the standard lamps in the bedrooms and many more lights throughout the hotel with low energy bulbs.
To help save water devices are fitted in the toilet cisterns and urinals and the bathrooms all have aerated taps.
