Originally a 17th Century coaching inn, parts of the Royal Castle Hotel buildings date back to the Elizabethan period. The stylish accommodation combines enchanting, traditional character with modern comforts. Located in the heart of Dartmouth it overlooks the inner harbour and Dart estuary.

There are twenty five en suite bedrooms, all individually furnished with a mixture of fine antiques and contemporary furniture. Many have river or harbour views, four-poster beds and spa baths. They are equipped with direct dial telephone, hospitality trays, satellite TV, WiFi access, hairdryers and central heating. There are natural toiletries and bathrobes in the en suite bath or shower rooms and guest recycling facilities.

‘Nu’, the first floor restaurant, has spectacular views and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The seasonal menus demonstrate the hotel’s support for the Taste of the West 'buy local' campaign. Much of the fish is directly from the fishing boats landing at the Dartmouth quayside. Food is also available in the Harbour and Galleon Bars.

The Royal Castle Hotel’s owners, Nigel and Anne Way, say they are passionate about the environment and have implemented many green policies to reduce their impact upon it. For example, come by train to Totnes, and if you are staying 3 nights or more they will organise a free taxi to and from the station.

They endeavour to recycle where-ever possible, use energy saving light bulbs and equipment where they can and use local suppliers for goods and services. They encourage guests not to use their cars and offer a wide range of activities and walks in and around Dartmouth. A Green folder is in every bedroom with complete details of the environmental policy.
