The Really Green Holiday Company offers stays in 5 luxurious yurts on either a bed and breakfast or self catering basis. They are located on a level, leafy, attractive site in an apple orchard, and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, less than 10 minutes’ walk from the beach at Freshwater Bay on the west coast of the Isle of Wight.

 

Each 16ft diameter canvas yurt provides full headroom and home comforts, and sleeps up to 5 people with raised solid wood flooring with rugs and mats, tables and chairs, a wood burning stove, a double bed (there’s even one  with a four poster), a double futon or day bed and a single camp bed if required. Bedding, towels and equipment are all on hand.

 

Fresh, organic produce can be ordered ready for your arrival and there is an on site farm shop and licensed cafe serving home cooked food.

 

A wide range of activities, sports and pastimes can be arranged – together with tuition if required – from sailing, horse riding and mountain biking to cards, board games and jigsaws.

 GREEN FEATURES

The Really Green Holiday Company says its green concept is at the heart of all it does. There are a range of eco friendly options including wood burning stoves, barbeques and braziers, which have a zero carbon footprint as they use wood from sustainable woodland (Calor gas cookers are also available). Lighting is solar or candles as there is no mains electricity on site. Compost toilets and a solar shower are provided.

Local produce and suppliers are used wherever possible and the aim is to purchase furnishings and equipment from companies with good green credentials.

The company reduces, recycles and re-uses everything it can, and makes it easy for guests to do the same. Green transport options include a free pick up service from the local ferry port. It has won both the Green Business Award and the Accommodation and Hospitality Award in the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce Business Awards for Excellence in 2009.
