DESCRIPTION

With its distinctive 16th-century façade and turrets, the Radisson SAS, Edinburgh is located in the heart of the city on the historic Royal Mile, between Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace.

Its 238 rooms and suites are fully equipped with amenities expected of a first class hotel. All rooms have direct dial telephones, internet access, TV with pay movies, desk, mini bar, tea and coffee making facilities, in-room safe, hairdryer, trouser press, iron and ironing board. Each room displays specially commissioned artworks by a local photographer.

Carubbers Restaurant is open for full Scottish breakfast every day and dinner on a Friday and Saturday evening only. Itchycoo Bar and Kitchen is open seven days a week and serves light meals, specialty coffees, traditional afternoon tea and an extensive choice of cocktails, spirits, malt whiskies, and draught beers.

Guests have complimentary access to the fully-equipped Evolve Leisure Club with its jet stream pool (10 metres), sauna, solarium and gymnasium. Guests can also choose from several Wellness treatments including an aromatherapy massage, a luxury facial or a reiki.

GREEN FEATURES

This hotel is part of the international Rezidor group which has a far reaching responsible business policy. The Radisson SAS, Edinburgh describes itself as “A Leader in Environmental Excellence” and says it is the first and only hotel in Scotland to invest in a full-time member of staff to promote environmental and social responsibility. All staff are trained in Responsible Business, and each department receives monthly job-specific training to reduce environmental impact.

In 2007 it has reduced electricity usage by over 9% and the volume of waste to landfill by over 50%. It has increased purchasing of Fair Trade items by 30% and of organic products by 25%.

The hotel offers guests and meeting delegates the opportunity to offset their carbon emissions and itself also provides a complimentary offsetting service for all meetings and events in the hotel.

Further goals for 2008 include reductions in usage of water usage by 10%, natural gas by 10% and linen by 5%.

The hotel has received a Gold Award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme and from Keep Edinburgh Clean and is 2007 finalist in five environmental awards.
