DESCRIPTION

The Lovat Arms is situated in the centre of Fort Augustus, at the southern tip of Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands. A local landmark, it stands on the site of Kilwhimen Barracks, one of four built in 1718. The west curtain wall of the old fort, 34 metres long by 4 metres high in some places, still stands in the hotel grounds.

Totally refurbished in 2007, this family run hotel offers a high class of comfort in traditional Victorian surroundings with stunning panoramic views across the Loch, the five lock canal staircase of the Caledonian Canal and the surrounding mountains.

There are 29 contemporary bedrooms, all en-suite and equipped with flat screen televisions, Sky & internet access plus hairdryer, iron and ironing board along with products supplied by Scottish Fine Soaps.

The restaurant serves hearty breakfast and dinner with an authentic Scottish flavour. Three weeks after opening it was awarded its first AA rosette. A selection of Orkney Ales, fine wines and Malt Whiskies are also available whilst relaxing by the open log fire.

 GREEN FEATURES

“Whilst looking after the profit,” say the owners of the Lovat Arms, they are “also looking after the environment and its future. It’s a win-win situation!”

As part of its £600,000 renovation they have installed a new central heating and hot water system using a biomass wood chip burner. All rooms are fitted with new computerised technology to control the temperature. Room lighting is with low voltage or energy saving lamps and in the corridors it is controlled by a PIR system relying on motion detectors. Appliances are on SAVAWATT or a time clock.

E-cloths with micro fibres are used for cleaning to reduce use of chemicals. All cleaning products are completely degradable and free from chlorine or other halogens and mineral acids.
The bathroom products are degradable, phosphate free, CFC free, acid/alkaline free, solvent free and with recyclable packaging.

Glass, cardboard, paper and aluminium are recycled wherever possible, pencils are made from recycled video cassettes and coasters from recycled tyres and a waste disposal system is in operation to reduce food waste.
