DESCRIPTION

The 35 acre Langdale Estate is a holiday resort set in the heart of the English Lake District. The estate is a natural woodland haven with streams and tarns, dotted with massive millstones and other carefully preserved reminders of its history as a 19th century gunpowder works. It offers a choice of hotel and self-catering accommodation, with the latter in Scandinavian lodges and apartments on a rental or timeshare basis.

The hotel has 57 bedrooms some of which are family rooms and 2 have four-posters. A handful are in the main building but most are in converted historic buildings around the estate The Waterside Rooms, situated on the banks of the Great Langdale Beck, all benefit from balconies overlooking the beck.

All rooms are en suite with shower over bath and AirBaths. They are equipped with remote control TV/Radio/Alarm, direct dial telephone and free Wi-Fi access plus trouser press, hairdryer and coffee and tea making facilities.

There are two restaurants: Purdey's, designed in the style of an old mill, with oak floors, local stone and water features serves continental and local cuisine, and the Terrace Restaurant and Café-Bar. There is also a traditional Lake District Pub plus extensive leisure and spa facilities with exercise studio, indoor swimming pool, spa, steam room and samarium.

GREEN FEATURES

Langdale says it is committed to responsible tourism. To reduce energy consumption maximum possible insulation is used. Staff avoid leaving appliances on stand-by and they have installed thermostats on all radiators, and where possible low energy light bulbs and timer light switches.
Waste is reduced through minimising packaging, re-using, and re-cycling glass, paper, cardboard, drinks cans and plastic.

To reduce water consumption aerators are being installed in guest bathrooms and attempts are made to reduce leaks from tarns and waterways around the estate.

Langdale tries to purchase local goods and services as well as Fairtrade and organic produce. The company supports local organisations. It is converting all new vehicles to LPG fuel supply. It is currently re-generating its Nature Trail for the promotion of indigenous wildlife and has received the Silver CBEN environmental award.

The company is investigating carbon neutral energy sources such as Biomass and Hydro and aims to reduce the use of chemical based cleaning products.
