This is a real country pub with bed and breakfast accommodation situated in the Chiltern Hills, a mile from Amersham underground station.

Within the flint and brick walls of this Grade 2 listed two hundred and fifty year old building there are open fires, old beams, lots of brass, old pictures, arm chairs and even the odd ghost story. But no juke boxes or fruit machines.

There are four double rooms and one single room. All are en-suite with TV and tea/coffee making facilities and a safe.

Meals are varied ranging from traditional English food to more exotic dishes – think pan fried ostrich.

The Ivy House has won accolades for its beers, wines and accommodation from the British Institute of Innkeepers and the Campaign for Real Ale.

Anthony Mears, the owner of the Ivy House, was one of the first publicans to sign-up to the “Hospitable Climates” advisory scheme in 2003. Backed by the Carbon Trust and the Hotel and Catering International Management Association this aims to help reduce energy consumption in the hospitality industry.

To coincide with building a new extension and to reduce power consumption condensing boilers and low energy water heaters were installed along with timers, movement sensors, low energy bulbs and better insulation.
