green holidays made easier
The Glenora Guest House is situated in Edinburgh’s city centre, close to the shops, financial district and International Conference Centre.
All 11 bedrooms have en suite shower rooms and are furnished and decorated by a local interior designer. Each is equipped with LCD flat screen television with Freeview digital TV and radio channels, telephone and internet access; a hospitality tray with a choice of teas, coffees and herbal teas, all of which are both organic and Fairtrade. The en suites boast a fine selection of complimentary toiletries including Scottish fine soap, shower gel and conditioning shampoo. Ironing and faxing facilities are available on request.
A wide selection of locally sourced and organic produce is offered in the dining room where a choice of continental buffet and full cooked breakfast is served, all prepared from entirely organic produce.
The Glenora has been awarded a bronze Green Business Tourism award for its eco-friendly commitments.
To save energy domestic appliances with A rating and low energy light bulbs have been installed, small kettles are supplied to bedrooms and the washing machine is restricted to the 30 degree cycle. Water saving is achieved through the installation of low flush toilets and of showers rather than baths and there is a towel use agreement with guests. Phosphate free soaps and detergents and chlorine free cleaning products are used throughout the building.
Glass, paper, cardboard, soap products, printer and toner cartridges, electrical goods and textiles are recycled and the business uses recycled paper products and print cartridges.
Organic food and Fairtrade products are served, but no individually wrapped foods, and local suppliers are utilised. There is no company car as all staff use public transport.
