green holidays made easier
Churchwood Valley Holiday Cabins are situated in a beautiful valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay offering peace and quiet, comfortable cabins and a natural environment. The 75 acre site includes the coast, woodlands and pasture and adjoins farms, National Trust land and the village of Wembury.
There is a choice of standard and deluxe one and two bedroom holiday timber cabins. Each has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences, ensuring secluded and attractive surroundings. All cabins have views across the valley, with some looking over the water meadow or towards the sea. All feature: fully modern kitchen and bathroom or shower room and lounge area with colour TV. All cabins have a paved patio area or decking with garden furniture and some have sliding patio doors. All have a parking space.
There is a licensed shop on site selling a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, and gifts and a fully equipped launderette.
Since it was first conceived in the fifties Churchwood has maintained a tradition of a love of nature and a pioneering approach to conservation working to preserve the natural wooded environment and its wildlife. Its beach is part of a voluntary marine conservation area and the Marine Centre just above the Old Mill Café provides a base for wardens who guide the frequent rock pool rambles in the summer months.
New and refurbished buildings and fences have been made with locally grown wood. Inside them there are low energy light bulbs wherever possible and phosphate-free cleaning agents are used.
There is a “buy green” policy whenever renewing or replacing buildings or equipment and all stationary is from recycled paper. A recycling centre has facilities for glass, plastic containers, paper and board, steel tins, aluminium cans, and green waste, and they also recycle plastic film from the shop and office.
David Bellamy has presented Churchwood with his Gold Conservation Award 11 years running and it has also been given Gold standard by South Hams Tourism for 4 consecutive years.
