green holidays made easier
Careys Manor is a luxury hotel and spa located at Brockenhurst deep in the New Forest National Park in Hampshire.
It has 80 bedrooms and suites. Those in the garden wing are more modern and have either a balcony or terrace while rooms in the old manor house are individually styled and traditional in character, though a little smaller, and some have four posters. Each bedroom has a private bathroom, 26" flat screen TV with Freeview, direct dial telephone, hospitality tray, hairdryer and bathrobe.
There are three restaurants. The Manor Restaurant has two AA rosettes, Le Blaireau is a more relaxed and laid-back French Bistro and Bar, and the Zen Garden Restaurant serves authentic Thai cuisine.
SenSpa offers unrivalled hydrotherapy facilities and indulgent spa treatments including Thai, Swedish and aromatherapy massage, facials, body wraps and scrubs. The Health Club has a swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and fitness suite.
Careys Manor aims to be as “green” as possible. In January 2007 it launched its "Green Team", a group of employees which meets regularly to initiate and facilitate environmentally friendly policies throughout the business.
All electricity used is generated from wind farms and light bulbs are gradually replaced by energy saving versions. It encourages guest room TVs are not left on stand-by and turning down radiators instead of opening windows. It has installed more efficient loft insulation and water butts.
Local and free-range produce is used throughout the three restaurants. It recycles as much paper, plastic, aluminium and glass as possible, with no more doyleys used. Toilet paper is made from sustainable sources
All guests who visit car-free are rewarded with 10% off the standard tariff rate plus 2 for 1 tickets at Beaulieu, a free steam train ride at Exbury Gardens and 10% off cycle hire at Cycle Experience in Brockenhurst.
The hotel supports conservation by the New Forest Trust and invites guests to donate £1 per stay towards the Trust’s work.
In May 2007 it was awarded Gold by the Green Tourism Business Scheme and it belongs to the renowned Considerate Hoteliers Association.
