green holidays made easier
An award winning hotel on the dramatic North Cornwall coast, overlooking an award winning beach with golden sands and rock pools.
Bedruthan Steps was named the South West's Large Hotel of 2007. It is family run and wonderful for families with simple and contemporary accommodation which reflects the architecture and setting.
All the 101 rooms, many facing the sea, are en suite with huge beds, broadband internet access, ironing and laundering facilities. There are also deluxe refurbished apartments and villas in the grounds.
During busy periods the ballroom plays host to both children and adults with daily entertainments from animal shows to casino nights. There are also plenty of quiet adult only areas.
In the restaurant the table d'hôte dinner menu offers four courses which change daily. Vegetarians and other special diets are catered for. Lunch and refreshments are available at Café Indigo. Early evening teas are available for youngsters and there is a Supper Club for older children.
Further four star comforts include childcare, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, gym and a health and beauty spa.
Bedruthan doesn’t just dabble in eco-friendly issues, but “dives right in”. The hotel has a Green Team and is run to have as little impact as possible on the environment.
Among over a hundred initiatives it uses organic cleaning products and 100% recycled paper; there are recycling points for papers, cans and bottles throughout the hotel; Cornish, organic and Fairtrade food and beverages are served; and guests are encouraged to carbon offset their journey by purchasing a tree.
A two million pound refit saw the introduction of low-energy lighting, energy-saving boilers and bedroom systems which turn off lights and TVs when guests leave.
It has used solar panels to help heat its outdoor pool for 40 years and the refurbished spa will also be adopting the eco-friendly approach. It will be recycling all packaging, using sustainable wall paper and implementing systems that will reduce the amount of water used.
The hotel has been crowned Cornwall Tourist Board's Sustainable Champion and was the first hotel in the county to receive the Green Tourism Business Scheme's gold award.
