green holidays made easier
Aberhyddnant is a family run, 220 acre organic hill farm in Crai producing quality lamb, pork, beef and free-range eggs. It is within easy reach of local market towns such as Brecon and Llandovery.
There are two self catering cottages which have been sympathetically converted from stone farm buildings. Bryniau Pell (Distant Hills), formerly a cart shed and hay loft, has three bedrooms and sleeps 4 plus 2 cots. Nyth y Wennol (Swallows Nest), the old dairy, also has three bedrooms and sleeps 6 plus 2 cots.
Both boast well equipped kitchens with electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and coffee maker. There is a shared utility/boot room with laundry facilities. Each cottage has books, videos and board games as well as fresh spring water which is tested every year. They are also equipped with allergy friendly pillows and quilts.
Children are very welcome with cots, fireguards, stair gates and high chairs available and a shared, enclosed play area and play room. Well behaved pets are allowed by arrangement but not dogs during the lambing periods. There are pretty gardens with tables and chairs and Bar-B-Q's.
The farm has a Tir Gofal management plan (Tir Gofal literally means “Land Care”, and is the first scheme in Wales and in Europe to promote whole farm conservation) which gives access to paths through the farm as well as renewing hedgerows and providing streamside corridors.
Visitors to the cottages are encouraged to make the most of these facilities in order to raise their awareness of the countryside and their possible impact upon it.
The owners aim to reduce domestic waste through recycling and composting. Biodegradable and recycled plastics and cleaning materials are used in the cottage and recycling bins are provided. They also aim to reduce electricity consumption; encourage the use of local food producers by visitors. All furniture and fittings come from local, Fairtrade or organic suppliers.
The accommodation has been awarded Green Dragon certification.
