Hotel company actively seeking to reduce its environmental impact

Guoman operates around 40 hotels throughout the UK under two brand names, Guoman and Thistle.

Guoman Hotels is an exclusive collection of deluxe hotels located in central London. Additionally one is set to open in Beijing in 2009 and there are further development plans in Asia.
Whilst each hotel in the portfolio is different, with its own unique identity and style, each provides the very highest levels of comfort and service to its guests. It features designer bedrooms, sumptuous dining, wireless broadband and state of the art conference facilities.

Thistle Hotels has over 30 hotels across the country, many in superb city centre locations, including nine in central London. With a selection of award winning restaurants and a choice of excellent health and leisure facilities, the accent is on a relaxing, comfortable ambience in which guests can work or rest at their own pace, and on warm, efficient and straightforward levels of service. Facilities include satellite televisions, internet access, restaurants and coffee lounges. Many also have Otium Health and Fitness centres with pools, spas and gyms.

Green features

Guoman says it actively seeks ways to reduce its environmental impact. Amongst initiatives to reduce energy consumption are low energy lighting, regular boiler efficiency audits, setting maximum water temperatures and installing movement sensor controlled lighting. Water usage is monitored to quickly identify leaks and potential problems, in addition to providing water saving devices in toilets and restrictors for taps and showers.

In 2007-2008 each hotel was targeted to reduce waste going to landfill by 40% and the group is committed to increasing recycling levels year on year. Waste streams are segregated at all hotels and paper, glass and cardboard are recycled. Guoman works with suppliers to reduce excess packaging and increase the use of recycled cardboard and reusable delivery trays and, wherever practical, purchases it products made from renewable and ethically sound sources. Employees are encouraged to be environmentally responsible through regular training, instruction and awareness raising activities.

The policy is regularly monitored by the group’s Corporate Social Responsibility committee and updated to reflect new initiatives and processes.
