 OVERVIEW

Wyndham comprises more than 7000 hotels in over 60 countries. It has a number of brands from economy to upmarket. These include Wyndham, Ramada, Days Inn, Super 8, Wingate by Wyndham, Baymont Inn & Suites, Microtel Inns and Suites, Hawthorn Suites, Howard Johnson, Knights Inn and AmeriHost Inn brands. All the hotels are owned individually and operated independently or by Wyndham Hotel Management.

Days Inn is aimed at price conscious travellers, with roadside, suburban and resort locations. Guests find comfortable, appealing rooms, consistent quality and friendly, courteous service. Amenities include the “Daybreak” complimentary breakfast and high-speed Internet access.

Ramada hotels are designed to appeal to mid market leisure and business travellers, and offer a blend of comfort and affordability. They are near city centres or airports and there are restaurants, lounges, enhanced continental breakfast, swimming pools, meeting rooms, and boardrooms at most locations. The range also includes premier properties called Ramada Plaza, and Ramada Resorts.

 GREEN FEATURES

Wyndham launched its sustainability programme called Wyndham Green in 2008. Because of its sheer scale the company believes it has a unique opportunity to have a significant and lasting environmental impact and says it is committed to conserving natural resources, preserving habitats and preventing pollution.

Its policy is to set targets and measure performance. Its initiatives include monitoring and reducing energy consumption with energy efficient bulbs or sensors and other green technology; reducing water consumption with low flow taps, shower head and toilets and an ozone laundry system; recycling; eco friendly purchasing; community programmes; and in house green champions and training.

The company partners with various organisations including the US Green Building Council and the International Tourism Partnership. Its websites highlight the verification programmes with which some individual hotels are complying and activities of certain chains, for instance:

Ramada has a linen and towel program and compact florescent light bulbs.

Days Inn has a linen and towel program, compact florescent light bulbs, public areas and in-room recycling, and is tracking energy consumption.
