Harrop Fold Farm

Near Macclesfield in the Peak District National Park

“Quintessentially English” B&B and self catering, caring for its environment

DESCRIPTION

Harrop Fold is a 20 acre smallholding nestling in a wooded gritstone valley to the west of the Peak District National Park and with magnificent views over the Cheshire Plain to the Welsh Mountains. Home of the Stevenson family, the 17th century buildings have been sympathetically restored, and it describes itself as “a quintessentially English experience”.

Bed & breakfast is offered in the Homestead. The Oak Bedroom boasts a superb four-poster bed, en suite bathroom and terrace. Valley View Room, also en suite, can be used as a twin or family room. Both have digital TV, wireless internet and a welcoming tray with teas, coffee, wine, biscuits and chocolates.

There is a sitting room and a spectacular oak beamed studio where paintings by Michael, a professional artist, may be viewed.

Self catering is available in Mellow Brook Cottage, a barn conversion with exposed timbers, stone-flagged and reclaimed pine flooring. It comes fully equipped and sleeps up to 6 in two en-suite bedrooms.

Dinners with seasonal menus, sometimes featuring the farm’s own beef, are available by prior arrangement.

GREEN CREDENTIALS

The farm is managed sympathetically in agreement with the Countryside Stewardship.

The Stevensons have taken various energy saving measures. All radiators are fitted with thermostatic valves and a number of low energy bulbs have been fitted, and the farm’s own supply of sustainable wood is used on log fires.

They say they are conscious of ‘Food Miles’ and support the local economy by sourcing produce from within a radius of 15 miles. Their spring water is supplied by the farm’s own borehole and this in turn is fed back to the land via the septic tank forming a full environmental circle.

Recycling boxes are provided at the farm for bottles, cans and paper. Textiles, clothes and shoes are taken to the local recycle bank. Garden and kitchen waste is composted.
