Lynmouth, in the Exmoor National Park
Self catering accommodation powered by 100% renewable energy
DESCRIPTION
Glen Lyn Gorge House is located in Exmoor National Park in Lynmouth where two rivers, the East and West Lyn, converge.
The area was named "Little Switzerland" by the Victorians. It is a site of special scientific interest.
Glen Lyn House is surrounded by the woodlands that lead to Glen Lyn Gorge, five minutes walk beside the river to Lynmouth harbour with its shops and pubs.
The attractive wooded valley provides the timber for the log fires in the holiday accommodation. Set amidst glorious scenery, the self catering cottages and apartments have log fires, large oak windows and sea views. One sleeps four and the rest each sleep two people. They have great character and are warm and comfortable with four poster beds and granite floors with under floor heating.
GREEN CREDENTIALS
The accommodation is heated and powered by 100% renewable energy, much of it provided by the nearby Glen Lyn Gorge hydro-electric turbines.
Hydro electricity was being generated in the East Lyn Valley as far back as 1898 but it was in 1980s that the new power station was established. Visitors are welcome and it has a renewable technology education centre.
