Western Highlands near Fort William

Self catering cottages with several green features

DESCRIPTION

These self catering cottages are situated in possibly the most famous of the Highland Glens known worldwide for the infamous Massacre of Glencoe in 1692. More recently it was a film location for “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban”.

Glencoe Cottages nestle under towering mountains and are surrounded by natural woodlands teaming with wildlife with spectacular views of the River Coe.

There are three traditionally built detached cottages. Inside they are modern and comfortable with sliding doors to a patio overlooking the river. They are fully insulated with under floor heating throughout. Each sleeps up to 6 people and has 3 bedrooms, an open plan living area including fully equipped kitchen, TV, video recorder, DVD player and music centre, and bathroom with shower

There is a shared wash house, drying room and lockable storage for bikes. Fishing is available in the trout loch or in the river.

GREEN CREDENTIALS

Glencoe Cottages have several green features. They are fully insulated and all the heating is provided by a central boiler run on a sustainable and renewable source: forestry woodchips. Next to it is a drying room. Solar panels are to supply heating and hot water in the summer. All light bulbs are energy saving and on timers.

The water is supplied from a spring. It is filtered and passed through an ultra violet ray with no chemicals. No weed killers are used and all cleaning materials are Ecover products.
Stationary is printed using non-harmful inks and on recycled paper. There are recycling bins for glass, plastic, paper, cans and compost.

The Douglas Fir used for the furniture is from Forest Stewardship Council certified woodlands. Organic tea, coffee and homemade biscuits are provided for guests on arrival.

Glencoe Cottages has been awarded the Scottish Tourist Board’s Gold Award for environmental management.
