DESCRIPTION
East Lochhead is a restored farmhouse with stone outbuildings in a quiet rural setting and with beautiful views over the Barr Loch. It is 20 miles south west of Glasgow and near both Glasgow and Prestwick airports.
It has been acclaimed as a top Scottish bed and breakfast. In the farmhouse there are three bedrooms with original artwork and paintings. All have TV, tea and coffee making, trouser press and en suite facilities. There is a large comfortable lounge/dining room with views of both the courtyard and the garden.
Janet Anderson is an enthusiastic and qualified cook who has been praised for the quality of her food. Dinners are also available and vegetarian, vegan and special diets are catered for.
There are six cottages in rehabilitated old barns sleeping from 2 to 6 people arranged around a courtyard available on a B&B or self catering basis.
GREEN CREDENTIALS
Ross and Janet Anderson are committed environmentalists and keen to spread the message. Among several energy saving measures they installed eco-flow magnets to all boilers; thermostatically controlled radiators; low energy light bulbs; double glazing throughout and good insulation.
They have reduced water usage with a water meter, pressure reducing valve and ‘hippos’ in all cisterns. Rainwater is used in the garden.
Glass bottles, cans and newspapers are recycled; vegetable and garden waste is composted. They use re-cycled paper, phosphate free washing and cleaning products; shampoo bottles are refilled from bulk purchase to limit packaging; and no chemical fertilisers are used on gardens or pasture.
Janet is committed to the slow food movement. She serves Highland beef and Jacobs lamb reared naturally on their farm; vegetables, salads and herbs from the garden; and she buys local produce.
East Lochhead received a Gold rating in the Green Tourism Business Scheme.
