Deans Place has been highly commended in the respected Considerate Hoteliers Association awards. Managing Director Peter Bramich highlights the restaurant’s food purchasing policy. “We consider and discuss with the suppliers the mileage involved in delivering the food from where it originated. Attention to food miles is just as important to us as reducing our energy consumption.”

It has a green team which regularly monitors energy usage. Following a Carbon Trust audit a number of saving were made for instance by insulating hot water cylinders, and in the kitchen where a grill which was kept lit all afternoon in case any customer required a toasted tea-cake was replaced with an electric toaster. Low energy light bulbs were installed extensively and in the restaurant are switched off when natural daylight can do the same job. In addition, the hot plates are automatically turned off at the same time.
