Comfortable B&B making real efforts to be eco-friendly

DESCRIPTION

Bryn Bella Guest House is an old doctor’s house set in a quiet location overlooking the village of Betws-y-Coed (about a mile away) in the Snowdonia National Park.

It offers bed and breakfast accommodation in 5 en-suite bedrooms all of which are tastefully furnished and with en suite bathrooms. All have TV, hairdryer, fridge, microwave, electronic safe and tea and coffee making facilities. Two rooms also have DVD players. Wireless Internet (WiFi) is accessible from all rooms and public areas and a computer is available for guest use in the lounge.

Hearty breakfasts are served in a pretty dining room with views across the valley. Vegetarians and those with special diets such as coeliac (celiac), wheat-free can be catered for. Packed lunches are also available.

There is a lockup garage for storing motorcycles and mountain bikes; there are drying and ironing facilities; and a terraced patio with great views and a peaceful garden in which to relax. There is also ample private parking, which is at a premium in the area.

GREEN CREDENTIALS

The owners, Mark & Joan Edwards, have signed up to a number of pledges in their mission to think global and act local and minimize their guest house’s impact on the environment.

All electricity comes from renewable sources and they avoid keeping appliances switched on standby. Guests are invited to help conserve power and heat by turning off bedroom lights and closing doors.

The owners extensively use recovered water for all garden needs. Bedding and towels are changed only on request. They recycle all cans, paper and bottles, cardboard and plastics. Vegetable matter is composted and used on the garden.

They buy fruit and vegetables locally; all their meat comes from local sources; and their sausages are hand made by the local butcher in Trefriw. Free range hens eggs from their own chickens are collected daily. All tea, sugar and coffee come from Fairtrade sources.

Bryn Bella has been awarded the Green Dragon Environmental Award in recognition of efforts.
