Brighton, close to the beach Regency townhouse B&B trying to minimise its environmental impact
DESCRIPTION
Brighton House is a refurbished, historic Regency townhouse in the heart of Brighton and close to the beach. It prides itself on its high standards of comfort and housekeeping. Proprietors Christine and Lucho seem to have attended to key details since launching their bed and breakfast business in 2004. There are 14 rooms, all en suite and with TV, free Wi-fi internet access, fans for the summer, tea and coffee making facilities and hairdryers. For guests who are allergic to the feather pillows and duvets hollow fibre alternatives are available. All rooms can request irons and ironing boards. Breakfast is primarily a healthy continental buffet style rather than a fry up. Some ingredients are organic. It is licensed to sell alcohol for consumption in the bedrooms but with the aim of offering oeace and tranquility it and does not cater for party groups nor children under 12.
GREEN FEATURES Christine and Lucho aim to minimize their B&B’s environmental impact without sacrificing guests’ comfort. In terms of energy conservation electricity is supplied from renewable sources; the building is well insulated; the central heating control system restricts heating to unoccupied rooms; and there are long life low watt light bulbs wherever possible. There is a sedum roof over the kitchen and dry store extension for added insulation - and more green space. A local recycling co-operative collects waste glass, paper, cartons, tins, and tetra packaging. Guests are provided with waste baskets for recyclable and non-recyclable material. All bio-degradable waste is processed through a wormery providing garden compost. ¬ Bathrooms have soap dispensers to reduce wastage and packaging and there is a towels use policy whereby they are laundered on request rather than daily. All cleaning materials and detergents are ecologically sound products and the company car runs on Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG).
