Environmentally conscious B&B in a grade II Regency terrace

Blue Seas Hotel is a small bed and breakfast in a grade II listed south-facing Regency terrace close to Penzance's promenade and town centre. It is an ideal base to visit Land's End, St Michael 's Mount, Sennen Cove, the Minack Theatre, Mousehole, St Ives or the magnificent Cornish gardens.

All the rooms are en-suite and have colour TV, central heating, tea and coffee making facilities, fresh flowers and chocolates and most have sea views towards Newlyn and Mousehole.

There is a choice of full English breakfast, continental buffet, vegetarian option and, for fish lovers, traditional kedgeree.

Free wireless broadband internet connection is available throughout the building with free use of laptop. There is a guest lounge and reading room overlooking the sheltered garden and sea front.

 

GREEN CREDENTIALS                                                                                                

The Blue Seas owners, Arnaud and Fiona Ruetsch, say they have been conscious of the hotel’s impact on the environment since they took it over in 2001.

Wherever possible organic, rainforest alliance and fair trade products are sourced locally. Renewable electricity and also gas is purchased from RSPB energy. Electricity consumption has been reduced thanks to low energy lighting and switching off unused devices.

To save water flow reducers have been fitted on taps where possible, more efficient tanks in toilets, and showers to replace baths. Most cleaning products are environmentally friendly and eco-balls are used for washing and drying.

Attempts are made to reduce waste with bulk purchasing to minimise packaging, recycling (bags are provided for this in bedrooms) and kitchen waste is composted and only recycled paper is used for stationary, napkins and toilet paper.

As a result of its efforts the hotel has received a gold award for and there are hopes to install a solar hot water system and fit double glazing at the front of the building.
