Beechenhill Farm

Near Ashbourne, in the Peak District National Park

Farmhouse B&B and self catering cottages with high environmental standards

DESCRIPTION

Beechenhill is a working 92 acre organic dairy farm situated in the heart of the Derbyshire Peak District. It looks south over the Manifold Valley beside the beautiful Dovedale gorge.

Two rooms are offered in the farmhouse on a B&B basis. The double room has a lovely canopied bed, old polished pine furniture and an en suite shower room with a fish theme, reminiscent of Izaak Walton, the famous local angler. The large family room is adorned with rich tapestry colours and old polished pine and also has en suite facilities. Local and organic foods are served for breakfast, with porridge and yoghurt made from the farm’s own milk.

There are two self-catering cottages. Beechenhill Cottages is a romantic hideaway for two, and Cottage by the Pond which is a wheelchair-accessible converted barn sleeping six in three bedrooms and with two bathrooms. Guests can also enjoy tasty ready-meals and puddings from local producers.

There is a beautiful garden with swings, table tennis, garden draughts and chess, plus a Swedish hot tub beside a small heated cave. Visitors are welcome to explore the farm and maybe feed the calves.

GREEN CREDENTIALS

Beechenhill Farm holds the Peak District Environmental Quality Mark, an independently judged certification scheme. To qualify it has been independently judged to have achieved high standards of care for the environment.

On the farm the owners have a long established conservation programme, planting trees, organic farming and other measures to encourage wildlife.

They use environmentally friendly and locally grown products and aim to make efficient use of energy and water. There are energy saving light bulbs and the lavatories are dual flush with some to be adapted to use rainwater

They try to minimise waste and recycle paper, cans, plastic and glass and compost vegetable waste and encourage guests to recycle too.

They provide environmental information to customers. They have won the Peak District National Park Authority's Peak Achievements Conservation Award for their visitor information and their web site which promotes better understanding of farming and also won a Gold Award for the best tourism website in England.
